‘Ever Tried. Ever Failed. No Matter. Try Again. Fail Again. Fail Better.’
2022 is upon us and there were certainly a few twists and turns in 2021, it almost feels like a blur, is it just me? Once again let’s not lose sight of our achievements and resilience through another roller coaster year, please keep looking after yourselves as well as those around you at home and work.
I fulfilled my intention to do more Charity work by being a volunteer marshal at the COVID vaccination centre and did a most Sundays from March to September; I’m still on the volunteer register and intend to continue volunteering through 2022. Community Action Network (CAN) and the NHS are a pleasure to work with and I feel privileged to be a part of the National vaccination programme.
I enjoy my very varied work and am grateful to have a diverse group of clients, who keep me on my toes with their HR needs; from restructures to challenging employee issues, investigations, policies, pay queries and everything in between. I am pleased to say that my people management courses have been popular as companies invest in their managers; and I have now further developed some bespoke ‘how to’ sessions to enable managers to be confident in dealing with staffing issues effectively.
There have been some tricky cases and I am always appreciative when I receive feedback such as this ‘Hi Joanne, Thank you so much. I feel much more confident going into a meeting with him with your help and advice. I will follow your guidelines and let you know how it goes.’
As we go into the New Year, hybrid working is now the trend, together with employee wellbeing and the diversity agenda. Sustainability and the environment are also now part of business strategy.
The two big M’s that have come to the fore are Mental health and Menopause. It’s ok to not always be ok; reach out to the support if you need it, personally and professionally there are many networks available. I have benefitted from being a member of Dorset Chamber of Commerce, in particular their GU6 forum, which focusses on business leaders’ wellbeing and also the business buddy (mentoring) scheme.
Let’s keep moving forward and embrace creativity and innovation, which has (almost subconsciously) become the norm. Change is inevitable and successfully delivering change in organisations is fundamental in creating the desired behaviours and values; engagement is key to how staff react and adapt. I work with clients on change as a regular feature and it’s fascinating how businesses develop and evolve.
I will leave you with a quote from Eleanor Roosevelt ‘The future belongs to those who believe in beauty of their dreams.’
Here’s to a healthy and successful 2022.
